NEW ESA MIDO FASHION COCKTAIL EVENT

After the great success of the last years ESA MIDO event with more than 160 attendees, the 15th ESA Sunglass Industry event 2009 during MIDO will be held in a totally new format in order to attract even more key players of the sunglass industry!

This time the attendees at this succesful event will have even greater opportunities to increase and extend their sunglass industry network in a comfortable and inspiring atmsosphere! At the enjoyment of Cocktails and Buffet there will be plenty of possibilities to meet and talk with other attendees!

Laboratoire ALUTEC Special Service for ESA Members

The ESA offers in cooperation with Laboratoire ALUTEC special information service on CE marking regulation that will be free of charge for ESA members. Mr. Denis Larrue from ALUTEC informed the audience at the ESA Annual Meeting about this special service with a presentation that can be found in the internal members area on www.esa-sunglasses.com

If you would like to know what kind of tests have to be performed in order to check CE compliance of sunglasses, you can find an overview about the test also in the internal members area.

ESA preferential rates 2009:

Laboratoire ALUTEC offers, according to the special ESA information service, special rates for ESA members having additional queries. The pricelist with the special rates 2009 can be downloaded from the internal members area.

Review: ESA ANNUAL MEETING 2008

On October 29th 2008 the European Sunglass Association held its Annual Meeting at Sofitel Arc de Triomphe in Paris. There were two presentations at this year`s Annual Meeting.

"ESA information service about CE rules" presented by Mr. Denis Larrue

Mr. Denis Larrue from Alutec told the audience about a new scheme to support ESA members on CE marking regulation.

Objectives of the Alutec Service will be:
General information about CE marking rules (European Directives) kept up-to-date:
- Directives, National requirements, etc.
- Compliance with these requirements by harmonized standards or others
- Guidelines to fullfil these requirements and to achieve CE marking

Advices regarding Technical files and CE evaluation of the ESA members products (sunglare filters and sunglasses)

English as language (Documents, emails, supports, …)

Deadline (general information): within 1 working day (from Monday until Friday)

This special offer will be free of charge for ESA members. The information service will start on January 2009. For more detailed information, please have a look at the presentation of Alutec that ESA members can download from the internal member area.

"The effects of ultraviolet radiation on the human eye" presented by Dr. Angela Morton

The second presentation was the study on "the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the human eye" that was commissioned by the ESA and presented by Dr. Angela Morton. The two aims of this study were to evaluate UVR as a factor in the development of ocular disease as well as to evaluate if the ocular health benefits from wearing sunglasses. Furthermore, Dr. Morton mentioned key areas that would merit further investigation.

This very interesting and revealing study is available to free of charge to ESA members and it can be found in the internal area of www.esa-sunglasses.com.  Non ESA members will be able to purchase the study later on.

ESA Board 2008/2009:

The ESA is happy to present to you the new ESA Board:  The following Director has left the Board: Allan Rasmussen from Pro Design Denmark. Rod Lane, President of ESA, expressed his gratitude for his great contribution over many years. Then one new Director was elected: Martijn van Eerde from Maui Jim.

Alexandre ASSERAF has the position of the Sunwear Director of ESSILOR and is President of BNL, France. Within ESA he has held the Presidency for several years and now is the Chairman of the Membership Committee of ESA.

Eric BOINARD is Technical Director at Polaroid UK. He will be in charge for the Technical Committee at ESA. The objective is to follow technical developments in order to update ESA members on the latest developments within the international sunglass standards.

Petra ECKHARDT is Managing director and running the European Sunglass Association. She is in charge for the Training & Education Committee.

Rod LANE is Managing Director of FABRIS LANE Ltd., UK. Fabris Lane is market leader with sunglasses in the UK. Rod Lane is the President of ESA and as Chairman in charge of the EEC Regulatory Lobbying. The objective is to work with Brussels on projects which are related to the health of people’s eyes and to raise consumer awareness of the importance of wearing sunglasses.

Hervé MEILLAT is CEO at Christian Dalloz Sunoptic. His engagement for ESA will be focused to the UV-Protection. He will work with scientists and health & bio meteorological institutes in order to gain the latest information on UV.

Antoni OLIVELLA was previous President of ESA and is now Vice President and Treasurer of the European Sunglass Association. Also he is President of EUROM and CEO of Indo in Spain. Indo designs and manufactures prescription frames, sunglasses, prescription lenses, sunlenses and optical equipment.

Francesco PELLEGRINI is Corporate and Marketing Manager at Intercast. Mr. Pellegrini will be responsible for the Communication at ESA.

Martijn VAN EERDE is Marketing Manager at Maui Jim Sunglasses.
