Facts & Figures of the European Optical MarketProduction of sunglasses in Europe has been reported to be 51,41 million sunglasses in 2005 which as per the statistics is 7,9 % less as the year before. Only Italy reported a plus of 17,3% in value with a total production of 1.323,21 million euro in 2005 which corresponds to 49,22 million produced sunglasses in 2005 (6,4% more than in 2004). France produced 1,8 million sunglasses (-19,9% to LY) with a value of 39,3 million euro in 2005 (- 12,3% to LY). Spain produced 0,30 and Germany 0,09 million sunglasses in 2005. | 3.500 Export of sunglasses in Europe has been strong for most of the European Big Five when it comes volume. But although Germany indicates a plus of 65,70% with a total of 11,01 million sunglasses being exported, in value the Germans with 48,4 million euro show a loss of minus 11,70% to last year. Spain reports a plus towards 2004 of 45% with a total of 3,09 million exported sunglasses. In value the Spanish also are 16% above 2004 figures with a total of 16,33 million euro. Italian sunglasses have been exported with a plus of 8,94% towards the last season and a total of 40,55 million pieces in 2005. As well in value Italy shows the biggest plus with an increase of 20% and a value of 1.090,41 million euro for exported sunglasses out of Italy. With 4,5 million exported sunglasses in 2005, France remains -10,9 % behind 2004 numbers and with 64,2 million euro the loss in value is -3,3%. As per the reports, 123,02 million sunglasses with a total import value of 523,43 million euro have been imported into France, Germany, Italy and Spain. 31,16 million sunglasses have been imported into Italy with a total value of 147,89 which is 10,4% above 2004 in value and 5,78% above in volume. Spain imported 5% more sunglasses as 2004 with a volume of 31,3 million pieces and a value of 145,34 million euro (16% increase towards 2004). France reports an import of 24,9 million sunglasses (-4,0% towards last year) with a total value of 140,4 million euro (plus 3,8% towards 2004). Germany's import of sunglasses shows a plus of 5,6 % in volume (35,66 million pieces) and a minus in value 11,7 % (89,80 million euro). ESA Annual Meeting 2006 in Paris A presentation was made at the annual ESA meeting in Paris by Eric Boinard on the trends in international sunglass standards and their potential impacts on the European sunglass industry. The study is available free of charge for ESA members and can be found in the internal area of www.esa-sunglasses.com. New Board Members of the European Sunglass Association have been elected: Alexandre Asseraf, Willhelm Bauer , Eric Boinard, Giorgio Cabras, Petra Eckhardt, Rod Lane, Antoni Olivella, Allan Rasmussen, Ruedi Suter and Gianni Vetrini. Members agree with projected ESA Activities 2007 such as the Communication Project ESA Video and the approach towards Brussels. A Fashion Dinner will be held on May 5th at Hotel Principe di Savoia, Milan.The Yearly Conference will take place in the Lagonissi Resort, Greece, June 1 - 3 2007. Both events are also open for Industry Members not belonging to ESA yet.

1. | In the first unit the viewer is told about the beauty and joy of the sun and the dangers that lie within the consumption of sunlight. This unit shows furthermore how careless people behave in the sunlight and espacially how they forget to protect children`s eyes. |

2. | The second unit describes the composition of light in general and the effect of UV light on the eyes. Following a schmematic illustration of the eye and the light streaming into it is shown to clarify the effects of light on the eyes to the viewer. Thus the viewer is able to understand the abstract physical process that lies within the perception of light. |

3. | In the third unit severe deases on the human eye caused by uv radiation are characterised. After having learned about the the danger and the physical process of light in the first two units, the viewer is now faced with the serious consequenses that arise of a lack of the right eye protection. |

4. | After having seen the first three units the viewer is elucidated about the dangers and risks of uv radiation. The fourth unit now conveys information about the right UV protection for the eyes. In this context several important aspects that have to be kept in mind at a purchase of sunglasses are mentioned to the viewer. So that in the end the viewer must not be afraid of enjoying the sun. |
